We met again near the school today.
Since morning, she had been showing me her nails. She had painted my initial, “A,” on them and even sent me a snap saying, “Happy Anniversary, jaan,” with the “A” clearly visible. And yet, being the fool I am, I didn’t recognise it. She showed me her nails
again during the day, but somehow I missed it again.
Finally, when we met, she showed them to me once more. That was when I finally realised that she had actually put my initial on her nails. I clicked a picture of them and kissed her on the cheek.
I want her to know that I truly, genuinely appreciate the effort she put into those nails for me. It may seem like a small thing, but it touched my heart. She had been carrying that little surprise with her since morning, showing it to me again and again, hoping I would notice. And the fact that she took the time to do something so personal and thoughtful for our anniversary means a lot to me. I might have been slow to realise it, but I felt it deeply once I did.
Before meeting her, I had been planning to pick a flower from my lawn for her, but the gardener was there, so I couldn’t. I was also hoping to get her some chocolate, but she and I were on a call and she specifically told me not to bring anything. So I ended up meeting her with nothing in my hands.
But I had worn my wedding-day T-shirt just for her.
When we met, I was a little worried that someone might see us, so I didn’t say much about her sweet gesture. I just kissed her on the cheek. Maybe I didn’t express it properly in that moment, but it genuinely meant a lot to me.
We then cut a small pastry together and blew out the candle for our 3rd anniversary.
She was on her periods and, because of that, she was feeling a little low. She told me that she didn’t really feel like it was our anniversary and that it felt more like a normal day. I tried to calm her down and make her feel better.
Eventually, she realised what I had been trying to do and understood that I had been making my own little efforts for our day. She felt sorry for hurting me, and we talked about it.
And on this anniversary, I also gifted her “Firdaus & Me.” I want her to be a part of it too — not just as someone I love, but as someone who is a part of the journey.
